SSAFA Forces Help

SSAFA Family

Steve, 39, was serving at RAF Cranwell when he was severely injured in a motorcycle accident. Steve was in a coma for 10 days and ultimately his right leg was amputated. When he was transferred to the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Steve, his wife Julie and their two young sons were able to stay at nearby SSAFA Norton House, Headley Court.

"It gave us family time when Steve could not come home because home was too far and we did not have the facilities in our house for him. The boys got to see their dad, we cooked dinner together and Steve was able to put them to bed and read them their bedtime story. In their little lives it was a long time of not having daddy at home and hospitals are not set up for children.”
